DIY Cotton Rounds (for free!)

January 13, 2019

A few weeks ago I posted a tutorial for unpaper towels for under $10 and told you to hang onto the scrap strips of fabric.

Here’s why:

I’m about to show you how you can make almost 250 reusable cotton rounds for free!

I am all about finding easy and cost effective ways to live a healthy lifestyle for my body and for my home (and the earth)! Reusing and repurposing is preferable to buying new, even though there are some amazing brands out there selling fantastic, sustainable products.

For my original unpaper towel project, I found a bunch of flannel cotton baby blankets at a local thrift store for under $10. Once all my unpaper towels were cut out, I had strips of leftover fabric.

Reusable Cotton Round DIY

Gather your leftover flannel cotton fabrics and find a circle that is the size you like. You could also just cut them into squares and use up all the fabric. I made mine round, as that is what I am used to using and I think they look pretty.

With pencil, trace around the circle object onto the underside of your fabric. Make sure to do it in a way that makes the most of the fabric. You want to get as many circles as possible from the scrap piece!

Using a good pair of fabric scissors (important: trust me), begin to cut out your circles.

You are now done and ready to use your new, reusable cotton rounds! If you have more time to spend on them and want to make them more durable, you can sew around the edges. You can also put two rounds together (the patterned side of each round facing out) and sew around the edges to create a thicker round.

How to Use & Clean

I use these rounds every night to remove my make up and cleanse my face. I then toss the dirty ones into a mesh bag that I keep in the bathroom. To clean them, I throw the mesh bag into the washer, air dry them and then reuse!
